Aberration is a contemporary original work rendered in dark, muted tones that explores perception, identity, and transformation through a powerful visual distortion.

At first glance, a face emerges in deep shades of black and subdued colour, meeting the viewer with a direct and steady gaze. The expression is calm yet intense, creating an immediate sense of presence and confrontation. This frontal moment establishes a focused and still encounter, charged with quiet intensity.

As the work develops, the face begins to break apart and smear into linear movement. Forms stretch, shift, and fragment, as if the image is being altered by an unseen force. This distortion introduces a sense of deviation and altered perception – an “aberration” where the familiar no longer remains stable.

From this dissolution, a second face gradually emerges in profile, formed from the same flowing lines and movement. Unlike the initial frontal gaze, this new face is oriented forward, carrying a clear sense of direction and focus, as if it has arisen through transformation rather than despite it. The shift from direct gaze to forward-facing profile reinforces a feeling of progression and reconfiguration.

The muted colour palette enhances the intensity of the piece, allowing light, shadow, and line to construct the narrative. The work becomes a study of perceptual disruption and renewal, where identity is not fixed but continuously reshaped through distortion and movement.

Aberration ultimately explores how deviation can become transformation – where identity is not lost in disruption, but reformed through it.
